Overview
When comparing such an important era in American history such as the 1940's to present-day America, it is important to look at how the youth of both generations lived as the young people in any society tend to shape how the decade is emulated.
In both of these eras, the United States finds itself involved in multiple military conflicts around the world. In the 1940's, Americans fought a two-front war against Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan to protect democracy against fascist rule. In present day, the US military is distributed around the globe continuing to fight a seemingly never-ending "War on Terror". Americans continue to be an international presence politically and economically but they are no longer only one of two superpowers in the world as many countries, such as China and India, have become more advanced. Even traditional family structures have changed drastically as many families nowadays may have both parents employed and working full time jobs as opposed to the 1940's gender stereotype of a working father and child-rearing mother.
These three main points have thoroughly influenced America's youth, instilling patriotism and a sense of national identity after the end of WWII and the establishment of the United Nations and a sense of adult-like independence in modern days when both of a child's parents may have to work in order to support their lifestyle.
